CREATING MOVING ART & DESIGN SOLUTIONS
My overarching goal is to create moving art and design solutions while sharing my passion for self-expression through the visual arts with others.
After earning a BA in Graphic Design, I spent over 20 years creating a wide variety of print production and motion graphic designs. My work included commercials, show promos, and corporate communications media for design groups and post-production companies, with two years at Paramount Pictures and one year on a nationally syndicated ABC Network daytime talk show in Los Angeles.
More recently, this same desire to create pleasing visual images has led me to express myself through painting. Since 2017, I have worked as a studio artist, gallery assistant, and social media marketer at Holder Dane Gallery and Art Studios in historic downtown Grapevine, Texas. Vetro Glassblowing Studio and Gallery is also a client, for whom I manage social media marketing, website, and graphic design needs.
Currently, I am developing a new body of work that blends the freedom of abstract expressionism with the realism of detailed bird imagery. I begin by creating an abstract background, then step back to study it, allowing the scene to guide me in choosing the perfect bird to bring to life within it. This process creates an exciting balance between expressive creativity and thoughtful discovery.
Having had many birds as pets, I feel a special connection with these beautiful creatures, which have become a central theme in my art. When painting birds, I attempt to capture the mystery and intelligence in their delicate features. I am inspired by the graceful freedom and endless variety of these abundantly diverse creatures.
Koi fish and water lily pads are also favorite subjects because I sense the peaceful motion of flowing fins quietly gliding through transparent and reflective water.
Rarely do I find a photo that is the perfect subject for painting, so I use my graphic design background to combine different images of birds, skies, and landscapes to create the image that inspires me to paint.
I enjoy immersing myself in the creative process, listening to inspirational music, and focusing on the details of shape, color, and value of my subject. It's a wonderful release to be in the flow of creating something beautiful. Needless to say, my favorite state of being is when I am creating. I hope you enjoy my art as much as I enjoy creating it.
